Scifest 2023 Recap

The maiden Science Festival, “SciFest 2023,” held at the Ghana Museum of Science and Technology (MST) in Accra aimed to educate students and other attendees about the importance of creativity and innovation in science for nation-building. The event attracted over 700 patrons, including school students, community groups, and families, offering hands-on scientific activities and demonstrations from various organizations.

The event was brought to life by partner organizations and vendors; Practical Education Network, Terrific Science Busters, the West African Centre for the Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), Ghana Space Science and Technology Center, creators of the science set DEXT Technologies, Virtutor Online and the Ghana museum and momuments board. Exhibitions ranged from microbe observation under microscopes to blood test demonstrations. Notable patrons included the Accra Girls SHS, Weija Presby JHS, and Galaxy International who also participated as exhibitors.

The festival, organized by G.H. Scientific in collaboration with the Ghana Museum of Science and Technology and Dext Technologies Limited, with support from the International Brain Research Organisation, showcased drones, telescopes, virtual reality games, and career talks by renowned Ghanaian scientists. Attendees expressed excitement and hoped for the event’s expansion to cover all regional capitals. Dr. Thomas Tagoe, co-founder of G.H. Scientific, emphasized the event’s goal of making science accessible and engaging, promoting science careers, and providing a unique family outing. Mrs. Akosua Buckmann, Head of MST, underscored the museum’s role in documenting Ghana’s STEM progress and encouraged visits to explore its scientific history.
